Pediatric Eye Exams

Pediatric eye exams are a crucial component of your child’s overall health. Since your children might not describe vision disorders that they are suffering from, it's your job to get them the help they need through a pediatric eye exam. At Iconic Eyecare, we're here to help parents of South Surrey, Morgan Heights, Grandview Heights, Sunnyside, and White Rock BC get the help they need through a pediatric eye exam. Our optometrist is trained in recognizing pediatric eye care issues and can help your child see clearly and improve their performance at school.

Pediatric Eye Exams

What Is a Pediatric Eye Exam?

A pediatric eye exam is geared toward helping children see, determine if they have any vision disorders, and help diagnose conditions that should be treated early on. For instance, if your child has a condition known as lazy eye, diagnosing it early on and doing therapy to correct the disorder early on.

Other vision disorders that a pediatric eye exam can help diagnose include:

  • Astigmatism, a misshapen cornea or lens
  • Myopia, also known as nearsightedness
  • Hyperopia, also known as farsightedness

During an eye exam, your optometrist will ask your child questions about their vision, whether or not they are experiencing any discomfort, and conduct a vision test as well. These vision tests will us find out what is affecting your child’s vision.

How Often Does my Child Need a Pediatric Eye Exam?

It's important to get your child a pediatric eye exam at the age of three, and every two years afterward. However, if your child has a pre-existing eye disorder or if they begin to complain of vision issues, it's important to get them help from an eye doctor right away. Vision issues that could indicate your child needs a pediatric eye exam include blurry vision, squinting, headaches, having to sit directly in front of the classroom, and even poor grades in school.
