Eyeglasses FAQ

What Do Glasses Help Treat?

It's important to know that not all glasses will treat the same eye conditions. For instance, eyeglasses will do little to fix more serious vision disorders such as glaucoma or cataracts. However, eyeglasses are the first line of defense that can help you start to see clearer if you have certain vision disorders such as:

  • Myopia, or nearsightedness
  • Hyperopia, or farsightedness
  • Presbyopia, or farsightedness caused by degeneration
  • Astigmatism caused by a misshapen cornea

Eyeglasses work by fitting a prescription lens directly over the eye, correcting any refractive errors of the eye. The conditions above are all caused by problems with the shape of the cornea or lens, leading to the eye's inability to focus light properly. Glasses are an easy fix for these conditions.

Do I Need to See an Eye Doctor?

Even if you have never worn glasses, it's important to visit your doctor if you notice signs of vision disorder, such as:

  • Blurry vision
  • Double vision
  • Trouble seeing at night
  • Glare from cars
  • Headaches
  • Eye strain
  • Squinting

These symptoms might suggest you need the help of an eye doctor who can prescribe you glasses.

How Do I Get an Eye Exam?

Our optometrist will set up an appointment for you to conduct vision tests and eye exams. This will help them determine what prescription, if any, you need for your glasses. You can then use this prescription to find the perfect pair of glasses to suit your face, needs, and style! It's important to follow up with your optometrist every 1 to 2 years for changes in your vision prescription.
